How did the start of your job sharing go and what challenges did you experience?

At the start of our tandem, we were accompanied by an experienced coach from Hamburg. In two intensive workshop days, we worked out the framework conditions for our collaboration, got to know each other better, built trust and developed concrete strategies. We clarified important questions, such as: What does a typical week look like for us? Who works when? Which tasks can we do independently and which do we need to discuss in person?

We use OneNote to document all important information and projects, as well as regular meetings to update each other. We have also given our tandem a common name - Annika and Nathalie have become "Anna". Anna has her own e-mail address and a calendar, which makes it easier to communicate with colleagues, partners and customers. Our aim is to always be at the same level of knowledge and ensure seamless collaboration.

Of course, there were also many new challenges, especially at the beginning. The flow of information and the management of emails require discipline and clear agreements. But through regular exchanges and mutual support, we have built up a strong working relationship. Anna was also very well received by the team.

What advantages does job sharing offer you? Is it a model with a future?

For us, job sharing not only means more time for personal interests and family, but also a strong feeling of security and support in everyday working life. Job sharing also has a number of advantages for the company: Our decisions are more informed and deliberate because we discuss and develop them together. And if one of us is ill or on vacation, "Anna" is always there. We see great potential in job sharing, not only for women, but also for men who want to have more time for their family. Mixed tandems could open up new perspectives and increase diversity in management positions. For us, job sharing is therefore an important first step in demonstrating the advantages of this way of working and setting an example for others.
